It all started with one rock; a piece of granite.

My husband, acclaimed photographer Robert Coombes does a great deal of urban exploration in his quest for his next great work of art. As the equipment jockey on these adventures I found myself searching around for something to keep me occupied; so I starting admiring all the beautiful bits of red and pink stones around me. So I picked one up from the stream and put it in my pocket.

Later that day I was admiring my find and I thought it would make a neat good luck charm to keep in my pocket and remind me of all the simple beauty around me, but it's colours weren't quite so bright when it was dry and it was kinda jagged. My husband suggested I get a rock tumbler and than I could smooth and polish it and thus my collecting began.

Before I knew it I had several pounds of polished granite, quartz, basalt and other native beauties sitting on my kitchen table. I made a pendant for myself with copper wire and cotton cord, than one for Rob and than all my friends which still left my with dozens. So I came up with a name, a logo and I brought the lot with me to sell at the 2008 Fan appreciation show.

You see I'm a cartoonist; I create and publish comic books and any little bits and pieces I can sell to help pay for my table is a good thing. I called my little treasures 'Serenmeleon Stones' which is a merging of 'serenity' and Kimeleon (my pen name).

This is my first display as it appeared at my Fan Appreciation show in 2008. I had several pendants made with copper and jewellers brass that I placed on cards and hung from this make shift display unit. I also made some key chains which I have on the table. My sales were limited and I was convinced I needed a better set up.

For the 2008 Fan Expo I created a display that showcased the pieces more as necklaces. Still sales were low; I needed a new concept.

I started redesigning the pieces to have multiple stones. In 2009 I began ordering rough gemstones and introduced sterling silver to my designs. Creating one of a kind pieces that were as unique in design as each stone coming out of my tumbler.
By the summer I began making rings with hand woven bands out of copper and Sterling silver. I began experimenting with 'steam punk' inspired wire pieces with colour coated copper.
At the 2009 Fan Expo the newly renamed 'Bare Naked Earth' collection made it's debut with tremendous success and it keeps expanding with new materials. Hand cutting and polishing tools have been introduced to add stones like the delicate Australian Boulder Opal and other fascinating work!
